Dirtea coffee is an organic instant arabica with 1,000 mg of lion's mane extract per 2.5 g serving, 50 mg of caffeine and a price of £0.63 a cup from the 150 g pouch: the most lion's mane per pound we found. Below, we look at the ingredients, caffeine, prices, where to buy it, who owns it and how it compares with our No. 1.

Dirtea coffee in brief

Dirtea Coffee is an organic instant arabica blended with 1,000 mg of lion's mane extract per 2.5 g serving, plus a little maca and plant-sourced B vitamins; a 150 g pouch makes 60 servings for £38.00, or £0.63 a cup, with 50 mg of caffeine per serving according to the brand.

Its real strength is value: no drink in our lion's mane coffee comparison gives more lion's mane per pound. The trade-offs are a single mushroom, half the caffeine of a mug of instant coffee rather than a low-caffeine cup, and a standard returns policy instead of a money-back guarantee on the pouch.

We read the UK product page, the brand's FAQ, delivery and returns terms, retailer listings and Companies House on 29 September 2026. We have not drunk it: this is an analysis of labels, prices and public information.

What is in Dirtea Coffee? Ingredients per serving

The ingredient list on the UK product page reads, in order: organic coffee (56%), organic lion's mane extract (Hericium erinaceus, 40%), organic maca root powder, and an organic vitamin B complex made from guava, spirulina, chlorella and yeast, with mango, sprouted mung bean, lemon peel and holy basil leaf.

Three details from the brand's FAQ: the pouch is certified organic by the Organic Food Federation, the mushrooms are sourced from China and Siberia, and the products are packaged in the UK. One inconsistency: the brand's general FAQ says Dirtea Coffee contains ashwagandha, but the ingredient list on the product page does not include it. We go by the product page.

The brand's own recipe is a 2.5 g scoop in 35 ml of hot water, like an espresso, topped with 150 ml of steamed milk, or 100 ml of water for a longer latte. The scoop is small, so most of what is in the cup is water and milk.

Any authorised health claim on a product like this can only come from the added B vitamins, not from the lion's mane: no claim for lion's mane is authorised on the GB nutrition and health claims register. For the wider category, our guide to what mushroom coffee is and what the research shows goes further.

Dirtea lion's mane: how much per cup?

Dirtea Coffee contains 1,000 mg of lion's mane extract per 2.5 g serving: 40% of the scoop, from organic, dual-extracted fruiting bodies with more than 40% beta-glucans, according to the brand. If that percentage applies to the extract, a serving holds at least 400 mg of beta-glucans. The brand does not publish the extraction ratio, so the figure cannot be converted into grams of dried mushroom.

That is the same milligram figure as Brainstoorm, Spacegoods Rainbow Dust and Variety Mode Gold Dust, twice the 500 mg in Clearly Not Coffee or Myracle, and four times the 250 mg in London Nootropics Flow. It is also a little over half of the 1.8 g a day used in the Docherty trial (2023) and a third of the 3 g a day of powder in the Mori trial (2009). Neither tested a coffee, and neither tells you what a daily cup does. Our guide to how much lion's mane is in each UK coffee sets all the brands side by side.

Dirtea sells more lion's mane elsewhere in its range. Its Lion's Mane Mushroom Powder gives 2,000 mg per 2 g serving (£38.00 for 30 servings), and Dirtea Cacao has 2,500 mg of mushrooms per 6 g serving, split between lion's mane, tremella and reishi, at £43.00 for 30 servings. We compare that one in our guide to mushroom hot chocolate in the UK.

How much caffeine is in Dirtea coffee?

Dirtea Coffee contains 50 mg of caffeine per serving, according to its UK product page on 29 September 2026 (a "50mg Caffeine" label and an answer in the page's FAQ), from 1.4 g of coffee. The brand also says it has "up to 80% less caffeine" than regular coffee, without saying which coffee it measured against.

The NHS puts a mug of instant coffee at about 100 mg, so on that yardstick 50 mg is half, whereas 80% less would be about 20 mg. It is less than London Nootropics (80 to 110 mg) or Spacegoods Coffee (80 to 120 mg), the same as Variety Mode Gold Dust Cocoa, and more than Myracle (40 mg), Brainstoorm (20 mg) or Clearly Not Coffee Original (8 mg).

The NHS advises no more than 200 mg of caffeine a day in pregnancy, which leaves room for other drinks alongside a cup, but every mug of tea or coffee counts. Dirtea itself recommends consulting a doctor before use in pregnancy and says it should not be given to children under 10.

Price per cup: pouch, sachets and subscription

Dirtea's servings are small (2.5 g), so a 150 g pouch goes a long way. These are the one-off prices on dirteaworld.com and on Holland & Barrett's website on 29 September 2026.

One-off prices on each website, 29 September 2026.

The pouch is also sold on subscription, delivered every 4, 6 or 8 weeks. As on the rest of this site, we compare one-off prices: check the subscription price on the product page on the day. The single sachets cost roughly three times as much per cup as the pouch.

Delivery terms from the brand's shipping page: orders leave a UK distribution centre within 24 to 72 hours and reach mainland UK in 2 to 5 working days; delivery is free over £50 in mainland UK and the Channel Islands, and the minimum order in the UK is £15. A single £38.00 pouch does not reach the free-delivery threshold.

Good to know: Dirtea's 90-day money-back guarantee only covers a Coffee, Matcha or Cacao bundle with collagen or creatine, launched in September 2026, bought on subscription for three consecutive orders. A pouch bought on its own falls under the standard returns policy: unopened products, within 30 days of receipt, with return postage paid by the customer.

Where to buy Dirtea in the UK

Here is where we could find Dirtea on 29 September 2026, and what we could check:

  • dirteaworld.com: the full range, every pouch size and the subscription.
  • Holland & Barrett: its website listed Dirtea Coffee (150 g and 7 sachets), Dirtea Cacao (180 g and 7 sachets) and Dirtea Matcha, at the prices in the table above.
  • Tesco: according to a trade-press report of 11 February 2026 (Tea & Coffee Trade Journal), Dirtea Coffee, Matcha and Cacao went on sale from 19 January 2026 in boxes of seven sachets, in 249 large Tesco stores and online. Tesco's website blocks automated checks, so we could not confirm the current range or price.
  • Selfridges, Myprotein and eBay: Dirtea listings showed in Google results. We did not check their prices.
  • Boots: we could not confirm a listing.

Dirtea's own site also has a store locator, but it showed no list of shops we could read. Note that Dirtea's guarantee terms exclude purchases made through third-party retailers, and its returns policy only covers orders placed on its own site.

What customers say

On 29 September 2026, the Dirtea Coffee product page showed an average of 4.7 out of 5 from 1,335 reviews, collected by a review app on the brand's own shop. Holland & Barrett's listing for the 150 g pouch showed three reviews, all at 5 out of 5. We could not read Trustpilot's figures, as the site blocks automated checks.

Reviews on a brand's own shop are a useful signal on taste, texture and delivery, but they are collected and displayed by the seller. The product page also quotes survey figures about effects, which we do not repeat: no health claim for lion's mane is authorised in Great Britain, and the same rule applies to what we publish.

What the reviews cannot tell you is whether the price suits you. For that, the numbers above do the work: £0.63 a serving from the 150 g pouch, 50 mg of caffeine and 1,000 mg of lion's mane.

Who owns Dirtea?

Dirtea is run by DIRTEA LTD, a private company registered at Companies House under number 12172107 and incorporated on 23 August 2019, with its registered office in London (W6). Andrew Salter and Simon Salter have been directors since 2019, and other directors have been appointed since.

The brand's Our Story page describes two brothers who discovered functional mushrooms in 2016 and names Andrew Salter and Simon Salter as co-founders. The range has since grown well beyond mushroom coffee: the UK shop also sells matcha, cacao and chai blends, single-mushroom powders, gummies, and collagen and creatine powders. Dirtea's FAQ says it launched in the United States in November 2023, and the trade press described its Tesco listing of January 2026 as the brand's first supermarket listing.

If you want the most lion's mane for your money, Dirtea wins, and we say so plainly. If you want lion's mane as part of a fuller formula with less caffeine, Brainstoorm has the most complete formula in our top 5: three mushrooms at 1,000 mg each plus maca, fibre, cacao, ashwagandha and rhodiola, or 6,225 mg of declared actives per cup, with 20 mg of caffeine and a 60-day money-back guarantee. It is made in France and costs £38.00 for 30 servings.

That is why Brainstoorm is No. 1 in our UK mushroom coffee ranking. Links to shops on this site are affiliate links, and our top 5 only lists partner brands. If you are weighing up any lion's mane drink, our page on lion's mane side effects and who should avoid it is worth reading first.
